Music Ministries
There are many ways to be involved in music ministry at either of our churches: St. Joseph or St. Rose of Lima.
Traditional Choir:
This ministry involves one practice and one mass each week. It is important to be able to commit to the weekly Thursday rehearsals. Members do not need to know how to read music, but a willingness to learn is important.
The choir is open to parishioners of all ages (children must be comfortable with their reading skills).
Parishioners are welcome to join for one season at a time, or for the whole year.
Contemporary choir:
Practices are usually held on Wednesday evenings. A keyboardist would be most welcome in this ministry, as well as voices and other instrumentalists.
Spanish music ministry:
Cantors and accompanists are needed to provide music for the 7:00 PM Saturday night Spanish mass. Singers and instrumentalists are welcome.
Christmas family choir:
There will be practices scheduled during Advent. The family choir will sing at the 6:00 PM mass on Christmas Eve.
Christmas choir:
Join the ranks of the traditional choir during the weeks of Advent to help us prepare for Christmas. Rehearsals will be on Thursdays at 7:00. The choir will sing at the Midnight mass.
Cantors/psalmist:
Lead the assembly in song throughout the mass. Lead us in the praying of the psalm during the liturgy of the word. Practices are arranged with the accompanist. (Cantors do not have to belong to one of the choirs and do not sing every week end.)
Keyboardists (piano or organ):
Keyboardists are needed for every mass, at St. Joseph and at St. Rose. St. Rose has a 2 manual organ and St. Joseph has a three manual instrument. In addition, St Joseph has a grand piano. Keyboardists can also play with the traditional choir, the contemporary ensemble and the Spanish choir.
Guitarists:
Accompany the singing at mass, with the contemporary ensemble, with a keyboardist, or with another guitarist.
Instrumentalists:
Enhance our liturgies by adding to the singing, and providing preludes, postludes, or music for the preparation of the gifts.
Funerals:
Organists and cantors are in short supply for funerals. This is a good ministry for people who are available during the day on week days.
Baptisms:
Cantors and accompanists are needed to provide music for baptisms outside of mass, once a month at St. Rose, and once a month at St. Joseph.
